10. Strensall Common
Actually two good walks here.
For both, park at the Strensall common car park shown. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2LPbX4ShFCRaUC1v7?g_st=ic
Walk 1. go to the entrance of the car park, past the barrier without crossing the road and head up the track north west. There’s lots of options one of which is to head clockwise around to the bottom of the shooting range and to link with the footpath crossing Hall 10 of York Golf Club and back to the car park.
Walk 2. cross the road to the right of the house and head down the road towards the railway track. Cross safely and follow the path going north west. you can navigate a couple of fields and going slightly beyond the settlement you can then walk south down the lane to the level crossing and join the common on the other side of the road and walk back to the car park watch out for Adders!

9. Beningborough wood walk, with bluebells in April.
Parking here:

There is also an established badger set 100 yards down towards the river, which is great for sniffing.
£1 donation to air ambulance at the car park.
8. Knapton to Rufforth – with stunning pub lunch

https://www.yorkshire.com/walking/walk-acomb-to-rufforth/
Dog bins just before the underpass under the ring road, and at the entrance to the bridleway moving away from the ring road. Although there is now a bespoke carpark built. Just at the bottom of the industrial estate on the map. You can access it turning off by the garden centre at the Poppleton park-and-ride and driving to the end of the road.

7. Hazlewood Castle
The view looking back towards Hazelwood Castle, from between the two Woods:

Approach on A64 and turn off at Hazlewood Cottages. Drive down Paradise Lane and Park at side of track where green arrow shows. Walk down the road and turn right down road to Peggy Allerton farm. Immediately past the barn there is a gate and a style to go across the field to the south-west has shown by the footpath in the diagram below.

Several versions of the walk. I wonder if the Crooked Billet still does amazing Yorkshire Puddings.
6. Hunmanby Gap
Car park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z2XM1hhsnRH8PzYB6?g_st=ic
– do check their website to see if the cafe is open by the car park.

5. Hagg Wood, Dunnington

4. Acaster Airfield
Car park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sadXdVW3AfVegXie6?g_st=ic
update 2025: Tallie likes climbing the straw bales, and we often take the diagonal path across the green field shown.

3. Wheldrake Woods
